  • Pas bouchonné mais totalement imbuvable, a souffert d'une mauvaise conservation probablement.

  • Opened an hour prior. Dark garnet some bricking. Alcohol and a stewed plum note on the bouquet. Prickly entry and heat are the first two immediate impressions. On reflection and with a bit of time there is a softer and sweeter side to this wine, which comes out after a bit of time in the glass. Still, the overall impression tonight is not an enjoyable one....too unbalanced and hot.

Probably should have got to this last bottle a couple of years ago.

  • Great bang-for-the-buck! Well balanced wine, with prominent blackberries up front twisted in the middle with dark cherries and moderate tannins, ending with spicy notes and a finish that never seems to end. Wonderful pairing with Entrecôte steak with herb-butter sauce & pommes frites.

  • Decanted half an hour, served at 15C. Medium garnet. Drank outside so difficult to pick up detail on the bouquet but some red fruit and a distinct note of burnt rubber on the nose.

Sweet attack building through a somewhat muddled mid-palate and a prickly finish. There isn't alot of clarity here or focus, and the wine feels less characterful as a result. Picking up the quinine note again tonight. Definitely best served slightly chilled - as this wine warmed outside tonight it really fell apart.

It's not that I don't like the wine - I appreciate it is a low priced wine that delivers some quite intense old vine grenache flavour - but I simply don't feel it punches as much above its weight as its made out to do, or as many others.

People who like full on fruit bomb Aussie Shirazes and some Priorat wines would tend to like this but I find it monolithic. Good value, but there are other wines in this price range I find more interesting.

  • Decanted 1 hour served at 15C. Notes from second night. Less impressed with this wine tonight. Could be bottle variability but I found this hot and prickly with the alcohol on the final sitting rather uncomfortably alongside the admittedly big fruit mid-palate. There's an astringent note as well...quinine like. I noted alcohol on the finish on a previous note as well....

Think I'll try and reserve these for barbecue outings where we drink outside - the big bouquet and palate should stand up well to outdoors.
