Amazingly still offering up loads of pleasure with essence of dark red rustic fruits with nice zip and cut along with a sold spicy finish. Past prime, but likely offers pleasure even longer. These Kalin wines seemingly always seem to outperform expectations.

The 1988 Kalin Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma County is a wonderful wine, and very reminiscent of an old-school northern Médoc from a top address. The wine blossoms in the decanter to offer up a strikingly complex bouquet of dried berries, red plums, cigar box, rich earth tones and all sorts of other savory nuances. On the palate the wine is deep and full-bodied, with a beautifully complete and refined tannic structure that fills the mouth. Just superb stuff.

Still plenty of fruit, though I have to admit it lost some of its depth. I still found it very enjoyable. Drank it at El Gaucho in Seattle.
