I'm a huge fan of Italian wines, all styles and all price ranges, however this is my first aglianico. Very dark in color and no legs to speak of when swirled in the glass. Flowery aroma, with underlying dark fruit on the nose. Dark fruit and a little tart cherry, tar, and leather on the palate, with considerable acidity and bitterness. Not particularly balanced or polished, but acceptable for this price range. Bitter coco tones that linger on the finish.

Awkward nose at first, opens up to sour cherry, sundried tomatoes, some vanilla??, nice acidity... very nice... i would hightly recommend this wine if you find it under $14.

While I wasn't exactly too sure what to expect, this was quite different than anticipated. Relatively soft and approachable for an aglianico. Very ripe and almost brambly with blackberries, slight spice, and great acidity. The midpalate shows almost a pruney element that suggest overripe berries, but it is still enjoyable.

Clear very dark eggplant core of moderate intensity that extends right out to the thin ruby edge - youthful. Clean nose of nutmeg, violet and plum of moderate intensity but the nose is still somewhat muted. Dry (quite) with moderate tannin (soft and relatively smooth especially for an Aglianico), acid, body and alcohol - in other words well balanced. Somewhat soft on the palate with flavours of ripe dark fruit (plum/prune) with a tiny bit of Chinese 5 spice. The finish is moderately long containing the pleasant prune flavours and some light alcohol heat. Ready to drink now (plastic cork!) but could be put down for a couple of years to let the nose and flavours to develop a bit.
