this was a fickle bottle ... the first night it was so overwhelming w/ spice that i could hardly drink a glass ... so in frustration, i put opened but corked in the cellar. 2 days later it still had spice but the cherry was way evident on the front palate and overall it was way better

Unlike the bottle I had last year this was good from the get-go and certainly it's the most overtly Northern Rhône-like syrah I've ever had from the new world. Medium-full with nicely concentrated (and still primary) black fruit but really it's dominated by olives on night one and black pepper on night two, and the spicy, stemmy characteristics are in full flagrant force and nicely integrated with the bright acidity, floral notes, and salty earth tones. Very nicely done.

Truly a cool-climate syrah: assertive stem and herb and olive characteristics, plus black fruit not terribly unlike some St. Joseph and Crozes Hermitages I've had. But I have to say that I only experienced the goodness after day three. Before that, on nights one and two, it was wildly disjointed, watery and bitter, and utterly undrinkable. I'm glad I didn't pour this down the sink — save whatever bottles you might have for a good 3 to 5 years!

the nose is a bit off, but the palate is great ... a touch of spice and very smooth across the full taste ...
i liked it ... if the nose was more refined this could be a barn-burner for the price
