This was an extreme surprise. During the process of organizing, barcoding, and updating my wine cellar, I discovered this 2007 Bogle Chardonnay hiding in one of the bins. Just for fun, I opened it up to see what a spent, long-past-its-prime Chardonnay would taste like. To my surprise, neither the cork nor the bottle had that off, burnt, over-oaked scent I expected. I poured a glass and it definitely had the dark, golden sheen of a Chardonnay long past its prime. But to my surprise, there was still life left in this wine. Now, I’m not saying it was perfect or exhibited the fresh fruit it probably did when it was supposed to have been drunk. Yet, it was pleasantly drinkable. It had a nice lemon custard nose. On the palate, it was a soft, Meyer lemon to start, a bit nutty on the mid-palate, and finished with a very clear cardamom and nutmeg spice combo. I even shared this with a friend along with a mild cigar and the wine stood up well. I don’t recommend saving wines like this beyond their prime, but on the other hand, I can wholeheartedly say, don’t automatically pour out your wines that are supposedly well past their drink-ability date. You’ll know when they’re bad, but looks can be deceiving. I maybe got very lucky, but this was a pleasant surprise, especially considering it was probably a $10 wine to begin with.

soft scents of fruit, pear and apple taste starts with fruit, has mineral middle and finishes with butter and lingering oak really enhanced the meal of King Crab

Great value for money. Citrus and vanilla balanced with nice mineral component.
