thank goodness for second chances - I thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd bottle of this that I opened, much more in keeping with the description from Garagiste. Nicely balanced, just a light coating of tannins but enough structure here, and fruit that was not not cloying and continued to drink well.

an unusual experience for me: tasted better immediatley after uncorking (and still cold from the cellar) than after an hour in the glass. I expected this wine to be all primary and fruit, which it was at first sip. It mellowed, and lost the sharp tannic age after an hour, but somehow the nice fruit seemed to go away too. Still acceptable for $10, but I've enjoyed other Spanish tempranillo for $6 or 7 even more.

(CRIANZA Palacio Quemado) Re (order) Dear Friends, Here are two wines many of you asked for more of (both were offered a year or two ago) - I have a small stash of each directly from the source - both are $9.99 which should make them about the lowest prices in the world (the price on the Cairanne is completely ridiculous for something this hand-made): 2006 Chateau les Quatre Filles "Cairanne" (MDO/Paris) STRICT LIMIT 12/person This is the high-end wine from Les Quatre Filles with packaging to match. This is a beast of a wine that is definitely in need of bottle age to bring out its complexity. Nearly impenetrable at present, this is a $9.99 gamble that could bring heavy rewards 4-6 years down the road (this producer is known for severely tannic, artisanal wine in youth that slowly melts away like a combination of Cahors, Madiran and Cotes du Rhone). A top Gold Medal winner in Paris last year, whatever it is, this wine has struck a chord with many of you that wish to age it (possibly to fool people in a blind tasting once it softens). Not for those seeking a light-hearted Grenache for a Monday night - this is potentially very serious wine that is pent up and full of gritty, tannic extract. A mix of old vine Syrah and Grenache with low alcohol (13.0-13.5%) at a price that is somewhat of a laugh (the empty bottle, label and shipping probably cost half this). 2005 Palacio Quemado Ribera del Guadiana "Crianza" (Alvear) STRICT LIMIT 12/person This is the regular version of the Quemado we offered a few weeks ago and it's been quite a hit as well. If you've been wondering what the Alvear lineage can do with a Crianza made to an exacting standard, here you go at a price that is also a laugh. 100% Tempranillo that will be a party favorite... Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Rhone9299 Spain7730

Great value -- not a ton to it but I'm a fan.
