Although you could still see and faintly taste the wine this had been, this bottle was geriatric, entertaining and with some personality, but geriatric. Knowing the source the storage was borderline so if you get one from a good cellar I bet it will be a lot of fun.

Cellared since original release. Crunchy, spicy Cabernet Franc fruit, a bit more to the red spectrum than usual, with good acidity, firmness, concentration, and freshness. Not a lot of complexity, though.

Flat-out fantastic, easily better than the 2003 drank alongside. Incredibly pure red fruit (think raspberries and redcurrants), a nice streak of green peppercorn, a floral violet influence, hints of leafy tobacco. Intense red fruit on the palate, with refined, earthy, soily tannins that show plenty of structure, and simply brilliant acid that gives the wine real length. This is easily the best Chinon I've ever had.

Peppery, light, nice acidity, a hint of mushrooms and forest floor.
