A lost Friday afternoon gathering – COVID safety measures - Mostly Blind (Reston, Va): Initially very pale color but magically gains color with air. Expressive nose displaying ripe red fruit, strawberry jam, dry cherry, a hint of licorice, caramel, dry mushroom and iron. Fully resolved harmonious palate, nicely layered sweet red fruit, bright acidity, strong iron mineral, fully resolved tannins and a seamless long sweet red fruit driven finish with mushroom and iron at the end. It is still drinking beautifully, consistent with the last two bottles.

Saturday lunch with Eddie (Masseria, DC): Much paler than the Villero and the Monfortino. Harmonious nose displaying subtle red fruit, strawberry, a hint of cherry, anise, raw button mushroom, light caramel and iron. Very precise and slightly lean, subtle red fruit driven palate impression, medium acidity, strong mineral and a medium to long subtle red fruit driven finish. This is one of the few wines that would have benefited from warmer room temperate.

Kelly, Kevin, RJ and Tom's excellent NYC adventure; 12/1/2017-12/3/2017 (New York City): Exquisite harmonious nose displaying subtle sweet red fruit that Giacosa is known for, fresh strawberry, raspberry, a hint of cherry, anise, spearmint, Asian spices, caramel, porcini and strong iron. Perfectly harmonious Burgundian palate, silky and weightless, medium acidity, strong iron/mineral and a seamless long finish with decadent yet delicate red fruit at the end. With air, it becomes even more expressive. I believe this is the only year that Giacosa made Ginestra. It totally exceeds our expectation. This clearly demonstrates why Bruno Giacosa is one of the greatest wine makers in the world.
