I got this as a gift bottle for a 2006 party. It's been waiting its turn in the cellar until tonight.
A simple nose of red fruits.
More interesting on the pallet with cherry, raspberry and black spices. A surprisingly long finish of tobacco, coffee, and black spice. A nice bright acidity livens the flavors. Not much earthiness.
Tannins are soft and have a nice presence, but I don't expect this bottle will improve with any further aging. Still very enjoyable, but I would drink up this year.
I have had far worse gift bottles.

Foggy color and raisiny nose put this just this side flawed. Still drinkable, with surprisingly firm tannins but not particularly interesting. Won't call it flawed but it seems to have aged faster than it should have (other bottles in the same cooler are fine). Or maybe it's just past its prime. It should make a good addition to beef stew (in it, not with it).

Wine Club January (Byfield, MA): Purple opaque. Big nose of briary fruits and cassis. On the palate same with chocolate. Not much minerality. Strong mouth-coating tannins. Not complex but very enjoyable. This seemed to please most everyone and for the price, I don't think many would rather pay for the Cinq Cepages.

Enjoyed this with Andrew and Laura to celebrate Laura's birthday. Not as good as the Cabernet Sauvignon.
