  • I love Zinfandel but it's been a challenging grape out of California for a decade. This one had a little too much cooked fruit for me, especially prune. I think the alcohol is still in balance but the flavors almost have an Amarone character. There is some cedar and brick left but the spiciness had faded. Interesting but not food friendly.

  • browning at the edge. black fruit and black pepper on the nose, along with a bit of heat. on the palate is chocolate and black fruit, gentle tannin, good acid, surprisingly hidden alc at 16.5%. Finish shows ripeness. Showing well at this age.

  • Also originally tasted this at the Turley pickup party- it was fantastic, so we ended up buying the very last two of the Magnums that they were selling. Opened one of them a few months back to share with friends, and it did not disappoint! Very fruity and so smooth. Opened up the second bottle last night; decided to decant this one for about two hours though. It was just as memorable- even had a non-wine drinker friend coming back for seconds!

  • (Tasted at the Turley Pickup Party) Goes to show that Zinfandel can age a decade or more when you do things right. Out of the winery's library, served from magnum. Much of the fruit has dropped, but it has taken on interesting secondary characteristics of smoke, tar and charred wood, augmented by some welcome cranberry and apricot. Browning at the rim ever so slightly. Picks up a bit of heat in the finish. But a fine effort. Plus fun to drink an 11-year-old Zin.

  • Decanted off of some sediment. Ruby red with lots of brick. Nice zin nose, with plums, some bramble, red berries, overlaid with cedar and creosote. Smoke and white pepper flavors lead on the palate, with an element of cooked prunes, a bit overripe. Smooth medium bodied texture. Coffee flavors and light, dry tannins lead the very long finish. This is a classic Zin vineyard from a classic producer, but I was hoping for more. Cooked flavors weigh in a little too heavily here.
