  • Judy Blue's Over the River & Through the Old Wines Event (Judith's House, WI): Purple red color. PNP, followed one glass for an hour. Another wine that lives up to the theme tonight - over the hill. These big behemoths just don't age this long. Get'em while the fruit is there and can compete with the alcohol. Not as bad as the Greenock Apricot, but still, no longer balanced - assuming it was at one point. Peppery, blackberry, baked plum, a hint of more mint than actual eucalyptus, wood, and alcohol on the mid palate through the finish.

  • This remains one of our favorites and at ten years of age it is still drinking well and showing no diminution... Wish we could get more like this ... consistent with earlier tasting notes ...

  • This might have fared better in rating if it had not followed the 2005 Flinders Run Shiraz. This was good but showed a little less fruit and body than the '05. Still fruit forward, a bit smoky and a bit of pepper.

  • Tasted against two other Big Red Shiraz' Kaesler The Bogan and Ninety Plus Cellars Lot 101. Like earlier comparison tasting of varied big reds, this was the hit of the evening. Consistent with earlier notes, the 2006 Flinders is dark inky purple, full bodied, powerfully scented bouquet of dark berries, smoky minerals and fresh flowers bursting with flavors of thick chewy black raspberry, blueberry and cassis with layers of nut, vanilla and hints of mocha flavors on a tongue coating lingering finish with tones of black tea and what Parker refers to as 'pain grillé' which is the French word for 'toast'. As much as we like this wine, the 2005 may be even better, being more polished, smoother and more balanced.

  • Deep indigo color. Creosote, granite and overripe berries on the nose. Cassis and savory herbs on the palate. Still a bit astringent and medicinal on the finish.
