Neither "disappointingly thin" nor "huge fruit buzz": in fact, delicious happy medium, perfectly balanced. Blackberry fragrance on the nose; pure rather than funky on the palate. Confident, sophisticated, and yummy.

Purchased this Tasmanian pinot in Sydney last month for around $22. Beautiful shimmering ruby color. Cool-climate aromatics of black cherry, shale, and maritime breezes. Disappointingly thin on the palate, with a metallic minerality overwhelming the fruit. A little zinc on the finish. Not in the same league as bottlings I've tried from other leading Tassie producers like Panorama, Moorilla or Stefano Lubiana.

NobleRottersSydney - Tamar Trip Sep04 (2): Pipers River (East Tamar wineries): (A$37, cork) A bright red. Fresh cherry aromas almost conceal some light gamey spicy tones beneath. There’s spicy, almost peppery oak, subtle tannins, and a light-weight, somewhat front-palate finish. Not too bad, although pricey.

Newcastle Wine Club - August 2005 (Benvenuti's Italian Restaurant, Cooks Hill): Obvious forest floor characters on the nose, a tad funky. Huge fruit buzz across the palette. Full bodied with caramel coming through with a touch of spice. Rated excellent.
