nose - hay/grass, sour citrus (dan), maybe papaya. mouth - grapefruit, good midpalate, decent acidity. Unfortunately at the Wente restaurant they were unable to offer us an older bottle than the 2007.

With cold chicken, cheese, and crackers for lunch: Light aromas followed by strangely clean flavor when cold and then a long aftertaste that seems more powerful than the taste would predict. Clears the taste buds for sure. Soft in the mouth and almost stings afterward. Very pleasant. Flavor of vanilla improves as the wine warms and opens up. Requires and is worth your attention. Subtle and complex. Finishes like a Fume Blanc. Just as good, if not more balanced, the following day for a repeat lunch.

Tasted at the winery with the winemaker, Karl Wente. Th is bottle under-promised and over-performed for the price point. Light bodied with 100% ss and no malo. The wine exhibited classic SB characteristics and had above average persistence - especially considering its price point. Drink through 2009, approximately 8K cs produced.
