  • Bought this wine at the Paso Robles winery tasting room for $28 and drank before dinner with Italian lunchmeats and cheeses. This is the first Montepulciano we've ever had and we were really impressed. Typical of most Italian varietals, the nose is earthy, smoky, and slightly oaky. In the mouth, the flavor profile is wonderfuly creamy and lush, with very un-Italian soft, velvety tannins. The finish lingers for about 10 to 20 seconds, where the oak really shines though. This is one of the most wonderfully balanced Italian reds we've ever had; not too acidic, not too one-note, etc. Not having a point of reference to begin with, compared to other Montepulcianos, this bottle may not be all that we think it is. Based on our inexperience with this varietal, we LOVE this wine. Can't wait to visit Paso again and try the 2007 or 2008 depending on when we're in the area.
