Crack the cap and away we go: mocha, white pepper, cassis, smoked-raspberry, subtle eucalyptus notes, some pine and a note of alcohol (not that surprising when a wine is 14.5%) ... But that was just the initial take away; as we delve deeper and time passes it smooths and the smoky black fruit and currants really starts to shine and then pepper settles in as a seam running right through the middle leading to a mocha - raspberry finish.

Purchased for $12/bt with close out and case discount. Looks like it was a good deal. Agree with Fries 1st night experience. Nose was strong, dark fruits but taste was slightly sour initially. Mellowed out over 1-2 hrs. Have half of bottle left to see if it continues to integrate. Closer to a $12 bottle than $25 bottle at this point. Website advises aging up to 20 years. Maybe this just needs more time. Found 1 bottle of the '05 which website states states can age 20 years also.

Deep red / purple in colour. Drank over two nights: Night 1 - Vanilla, red fruit / boysenberry, tart, lots of acid, short finish, a bit disappointing; Night 2 - darker aromas, lots of jammy cassis and blackberries, meaty, savory bacon fat, still lots of acid, more complex and enjoyable, but still shortish finish. Decent, but '06 was far better.
