Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • This is austere and quite tight. The acidity is prominent to the point of being rather tart. Underneath all of this there is a sense of rustic quality, and after and hour and a half (I have been waiting), tannins emerge to soften the rough edges. Returning a day later to the remainder (transferred to a full half bottle) it is more approachable, though hardly welcoming. I will leave the rest of my bottles for a few years, in the hope that its time will come.

  • This has a red fruit mineral-laden nose followed by red cherries, cranberry, earth, rhubarb, crushed rocks, and grape stem on the palate. This wine is marked by the trademark Lafarge austerity. Two bottles tasted on different evenings, similar notes. Not an easy drink, almost an academic sipper. I imagine this would be better with food. This really opened up and honed its austerity after about three hours of breathing.
