bricking round the edge of the wine but still bright in colour, mature on the nose with old polished leather, still a some cherry fruit, the palate is fresh and gets a wave of tannin through the mid palate which softens with air, it’s a bit drying now on the finish, I’m not sure if the fruit will last longer than the tannin, but it may do.

Looking at Lafarge's holdings and what they bottled in 1999, I think this is likely a blend of Mitans and Chanlins. That fits too, because those are both on the Pommard side of the village and this is much more reminiscent of Pommard than Volnay, showing mint-edged very ripe black fruit with lots of drying tannin. It's almost like a Barolo. Nowhere near ready.

7/2/2018 - Tony Ling Likes this wine:
PNP into Luopai Wuguan Universal glass (“Root” day): Medium ruby with bricking rim and substantial fine deposits.
Savoury, chocolate-like and matured red fruits. Good mouthfeel and nice tight finish.
Would want a lot more of fruits. Past its prime and impossible to pinpoint the ‘terroir’ underneath.

This was pretty dried out and lacking fruit. Not sure it was the best bottle although Charliebird always has good provenance.

Unfortuanately over the hill. Luckily I had a second bottle of another wine as backup.
