Tasted side-by-side with 2007 The Bedrock Heirloom in our monthly wine tasting group. Pop n' pour per Chris Cottrell's recommendations.
Compared to Bedrock Heirloom, the nose on this wine was more open from the get-go and didn't need as much time in the glass to strut its stuff. Deep and rich aromas of blackberry, black currant, dried blueberry, cocoa powder, and espresso on the nose. This wine carries similar black fruit notes on the palate as Bedrock Heirloom, supported by fresh acidity, but was more brooding, deep, and rustic in profile and had more prominent spice notes, especially black pepper, that lingered over a long finish. Fine-grained, yet firm tannic structure makes this a little more unyielding than the Bedrock Heirloom.
This wine is still a puppy, showing some development particularly on the nose but the fruit is still very primary and tannic structure holding well. If I had to guess I'd say this needs another 6-8 years to reach its apogee, but this could easily be a 30+ year wine.

Dark purple in color with no bricking at all, and that amazing Bedrock perfume explodes from the glass on PnP. On the palate, full bodied with dark plums and a tart finish (in a good way). Enough acidity but definitely seems a bit 'bigger' than current Bedrock releases, but definitely in no way heavy. Lots of sediment - much more than any other BR I've opened. Overall an absolutely delicious field blend and a very well made wine. Damn impressive being it was Morgan's first vintage!

Wow. This is fantastic. Dead on to my memory of the Cali field blends we used drink years ago. Bold black fruits with brambly, dusty, earthy and smoky notes inside. Bright acids and a lovely vibe of being wholly organic and complete. Great stuff.

Decanted 2.5 hours. Electric crimson purple with a thin clear rim. The aroma is so complex I don't know where to begin! Smoky, ripe black fruit, high-toned fresh savory herbs, clove-studded dried orange peel are all there and more. Viscous, deep rich but weightless on the palate, certainly full bodied but not at all hot or heavy. Finishes with impeccable balance and length. Talk about knocking it out of the park on your first at-bat! 94+ drink now through 2018.

This smells like old blueberries and boysenberries. This is a very dry and tannic wine in a good way. Licorice, blueberry and a touch of light oak.
