  • Heaven in a glass. The best wine we have had in a long time, if not ever. Definitely in our top 5, probably our top 3. Aged perfectly for our palates. If there was ever a 100 point wine for us, this is it!

  • Gracious gift from Tom and Katie. What an unbelievable CdP. Such poise, such intensity, yet refined in its own unique way. I can't call this elegant, if by using such a word one begins to associate it with Pinot Noir or some humble Kiwi Syrah. But for sheer fruit weight, the way in which the core acidity frames both tannin and the ridiculous abundance of black fruits, and the penetrating sweetness that lingers despite the tsunami of round, fully ripe tannin in the finish, this somehow demands drink after drink after drink. There is nothing here that explicitly says, "This is contemplative, esoteric, philosophizing wine only; no posers allowed." It is wine with arms spread wide, ready to convert those who've never partaken of this greatest and oldest AOC, ready to revitalize those who've contemplated turning their backs, and ready to welcome the prodigal sons and daughters who've long since signed off CdP for its atmospheric alcohols, proliferative cuvees, and care-free consultants.

Of all the wines tasted at Strasbourg's Independent Vintners Expo back in February, this was hands-down the wine that best expressed impeccable balance, terroir integrity, and capability to age without insulting those who feel intent on infanticide. There is no spoofilation here, no OTT extraction, and nothing that says, "This could come from anywhere." It is as grounded in CdP as any great vintage of Vieux Donjon, Pegau or VT. Thanks again Tom for sharing this on my special day.
