  • How is this possible???! This is 9 year-old northern Italian Pinot Grigio, and it has the energy and minerality of a wine much, much younger. The nose is muted, and gives up some hay, gravel, and pear fruit, and the palate is fresh, with broad texture, but with acidity that makes the wine taste about 6 years younger than it is. Current vintage Lageder stuff is already delicious, albeit almost painfully minerally and acidic, and clearly has the ability to age well based on these few bottles of this wine I've had in the last few months. Even the color is very light straw. Nothing about this wine suggests that it is quickly approaching old age or even full maturity, and I am totally curious to see how the other two bottles I have behave over the next year or so. Wow!!!
