Salone di Grandi Vini Bianchi (Mirabelle Restaurant Austin, Texas): Light straw color, it had an interesting nose of buttermilk and tropical fruits, green apple and key lime, and almon, what one taster noted was “a classic expression of Italian pinot grigio.” It had a lot of acidity, was described as a “medley of tropical and citrus fruit”; others noted some strong butter and mineral notes as well as a nutty and herbal character. This wine gained a lot of balance with food, because of its acidity, and was quite good with fish.

Pretty much in line with previous notes but this bottle had an acidic tone that I have not experienced in other bottles. Doubt that it has anything to do with age, probably just bottle variation.

Light yellow color. Rich smell with some smoke or roasted oak and hint of perfume. Good body, elegant with balanced acidity but not particularly oaky in the taste. Long and spicy aftertaste. This is a very good Pinot Gris with the typical elegance you can expect when produced in Alto Adige.

Based on the other reviews, I can only surmise that age has really brought this wine together. I'm not a huge Italian PG fan, usually preferring the Alsatian style, but Alois does it possible the best in Alto Adige. This being a single vineyard selection, it has an extra measure of focus. Great minerality and petrol on the nose then you get nice tropical fruits and wet rocks plus minerals with a rich mouthfeel and nice slightly smoky finish. I would highly recommend this wine.

Nice well made wine but not my favorite grape. Being a sucker for acidity
