Tasting partner for today brought this wine because he knows I haven’t met a Clos St Denis I didn’t like. Bright ruby color with substantial clear rim; effusively floral and lively red berry fruit; loads of spice box notes; this is muscular and firmly wound with brisk acidity. A big wine now and sure to mellow nicely with an additional 5-10 years. I guessed CSD but missed vintage, guessing it an ‘02. I have a couple of Potel’s ‘07s, the Chambertin and the Chamb Beze. This wine seems to bode well for what they’ll have in store. 92+

This is a showy wine right out of the gate, with an expressive, even extravagant red fruit nose of raspberry and sous-bois with just a hint of spice. On the palate this shows good overall balance, perhaps missing just a bit of drive and spiciness on the finish and the grip. Keeps its strength over 2 hours, although the relative brevity of the finish becomes more evident with time, this mid-weight wine is ready for drinking now unless one prefers tertiary characteristics.

short decant, this was immediately showing its stuffing, rich red fruit with all the elements of greatness, a bit of medicinal red note that kept the higher profile intact. Just kept getting better as it opened. Very nice now. Sadly my on of this appelation, hopin the others I have are as good.

NobleRottersSydney - Burgundy (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {cork, 13%} [Paul - Guest] A gorgeous perfume of developing strawberries and chocolate. The mirror-smooth palate has polished blackberry fruit, dark and lovely. Medium acid, medium powdery tannins. I called-it medium/full-bodied, but I rather think that’s because the finish is so long, balanced, and persistent. No part of the tongue is untouched, and the touch is a caress. Really impressive. With my alarming lack of experience I’m guessing this is approaching maturity, but it does feel like it will hold for an age. Fabulous stuff.
