Came across with the dates and figs I would expect, but it was much more delicate on the palate that I expected for a hot vintage. A very nice touch for a dessert wine which could go with a chocolate torte and not come off bitter. But best with dried fruit and blue cheese. Paola Bea does seem to know how to handle the hot vintage for both dry and sweet bottling's on a pretty heady varietal.

Granato. Naso tipico, in bilico tra sensazioni mielate e di crostata di prugna, frutta secca, eucalipto, castagna arrostita e legna, qualche suggerimento di cappero. Dolce e suadente, chiude un po’ austero, minerale

Paolo Bea Private Dinner (Lexington Pizza Parlour, New York, NY): From 375ml. Opened immediately prior to serving. Tawny in color and quite cloudy. You can really sense the hot vintage: this is more raisiny and stewed than the 2006. Still, it's absolutely delicious and delivers on the melodia dei sensi (melody of the senses) that the label promises. This would have paired excellently with mature cheeses, but we had it with a phenomenal double-crust Nutella pizza with raspberry sauce and powdered sugar. Bottle #287. Rated 2 on a scale of -1 to 3.

Granato. Al naso visciola, mora in sciroppo, tabacco, spezie dolci, note salmastre, iodio, dattero, marron glacé. Bocca intensa, equilibrata, di straordinaria lunghezza
