  • The nose shines at the first three minutes, then it just ignores my feeling and it is closed nearly completely! On the palate, very tight red fruits, it is mean at the moment! Lacking charm!! The color is deep, ruby with a watery rim, no orange edge, it is young in my opinion! Will it shine in the future? I hope yes but I can't confirm it to you because this is my last bottle!

  • Secondary notes of bay leaf, underbrush, forest floor, also menthol, red cherry, on the nose. This is still very primary in the mouth, with sturdy cherry flavors, beset by earth and ample acidity, with quite some grip still. Once this settles out, it's clear it needs more cellar time.

  • Opened and poured, this showed well with an earthy, savoriness as its focal point. The aromatics show forest floor, tea leaves, mushroom, tart cherry and mineral notes. The cherry elements of bouquet remain in the background and don't provide the wines overall emphasis. The color is a bricking, tarnished medium ruby that is correct for the wine's age. The medium bodied palate shows a robustness that centers around its earthy elements. There is fruit here, but it plays a supporting role. Tannins remain present on the finish but are not obtrusive. This is mature and most likely slightly on the downside of its peak.

  • 1999 Red Burgundies (mostly Cote de Beaune) (Vin Vino Wine, Palo Alto, CA): Reticent nose, hint of brett. Savory palate of earth, iron and just a bit of tart cherry fruit. Interesting.

Ex-Icono, offen. (92/100)
