Ripe red raspberries; early summertime. Substantial oak. You can taste the barrique, but you can also taste healthy, thriving raspberry fruit. Lush and jammy.

This was not as good as I would have expected as petite syrah is one of my favorite varietals. Especially a small production Napa effort that's eleven years old from a decent producer. Up front it was a bit of an oak bomb. Decanted for 30 minutes to two hours with no significant improvement. I believe this wine was probably better three to four years ago when the fruit was more prevalent. At this point the wine is disjointed and out of balance with a sharp, tart, acidic finish. More time will only turn this wine to vinegar in my opinion. A decent quaff with brisket followed by chocolates to soften it up. This was not a wine that was made to be laid down. Probably was a lot better early on. Very good at best and that's generous.

Opened and poured. Inky purple, very dark and murky. Dense jammy profile, with puckering qualities. Sweet pepper, black berry compote, raspberry, plum and hoisin. Very nice - full yet elegant, solid fruit still with acidity to keep in from being flabby. Solid.

Pots very dark purple with red fruit nose, cola mouth feel with fruit and a bit of spice; medium aftertaste still good
