  • A blend of 50% Syrah, 30% Grenache, and 20% Carignan boasting a dark black core and a bright ruby red rim. Quite reticent at first with awkward aromas of dried grains and a simple acidic flavor, a general note this wine really requires at least 24 hours of air to open up. On day two there are pronounced floral aromas, followed by blackberry liqueur, cranberries, licorice, lavender, tarragon, black pepper, clove s and sweet vanilla. A bit light on the palate with sour cherries and blackberries on the attack leading to a weak mid-palate filled with strawberries, licorice, and tart acidity that keeps the wine fresh. The finish is short showing a slight orange peel flavor, black pepper, crushed stones, and brisk acidity. A mid-bodied wine that will probably not offer more, drink now or store for a few years.

  • Deep, dense purple - magenta color, very dark. Good expressiveness on the nose, of course very dark, chambord, blackberry, black licorice, dark cherries, and "liquor" aromas. Fine oak also comes through on the nose quite prominently; sandalwood. Bold, aggressive, lush, opulent, very robust and dark, showing very dark upon entrance, and developing onto a nice flare of dark cherries and dark plum, thus exhibiting some complexity. Evidently showing a fair amount of cedar box in the middle. This wine is inky and chewable. Oak is a little bit annoying. Long structure of tannins; finishes long. Does leave you with a little alcohol at the end.

  • Enticing Montsant wine, made by the famous Catalan oenologist Toni Coca, with a varietal composition of 50 % Syrah, 30 % Garnatxa and 20 % Samso (Carinyena). Aged for 12 months in barriques (65 % French, 35 % American). Very dense ruby-red colored wine with an intense nose of black cherries, spices, incense and a hint of anise. Powerful but harmonious palate, with lush dark fruit, a bright acidity, fine tannins and a noticeable oak influence (give it a few more years to integrate). Long complex finish. To be decanted at least two hours prior to consumption. Good ageing potential.

Lange, complexe afdronk. Minstens twee uur op voorhand te decanteren. Goed ontwikkelingspotentieel.

  • I think this is the first bottle I've come across with a music recommendation on the back label (Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini). The 2006 is the first release of this wine. On the nose, there are lots of sawdusty oak, then some chocolate, some floral notes and some cough medicine. On the palate, it's very big and mouthfilling with lots of black fruit, though the fruit's not oversweet. Some floral notes and good balance. Very firm, grippy tannins on the finish.
