  • This Alsatian white is a blend of Riesling and Pinot Gris but this is not indicated on the label since local rules prohibit naming varietals on the label in blends. The vineyard is made up of decomposed slate and was actually abandoned in 1940. Kreydenweiss cleared and replanted the vineyard in 1980. I was skeptical about how this 11 year old wine would hold up but it did not disappoint. I had heard that Kreydenweiss made wines for aging and if this wine is the norm I believe it. The cork was firm, intact and came out easily. The wine was a clear light yellow/amber color. The nose was laced with floral and mineral nuances. This was a bone dry wine with fresh and lively stone fruit, spice and green apple notes. It had a good mineral underpinning and I was awestruck but the vibrant acidity which was still present after 11 years (J3 was the first to notice this). Quite expressive on the finish. 91 points.
