Dark fruits and cedar on the nose with a touch of kirsch. Like silk on entry, with plum and tart cherry flavors. Has a little bite at the end, but not particularly long on the finish. The tannins may soften a bit and more complexity may develop with further cellaring, but at the expense of the fruit, which is a bit lacking. Pleasant now with a soft pinot-like smoothness. More elegance than power. Better with filet rather than ribeye, but best suited for pasta dishes. I would rather enjoy these over the next couple of years rather than take a gamble and lose more fruit. My bet is that this is as prime a time as there will be for this pretty wine.

Showing some browning around the edges. This wine shows tertiary notes of plum, shallot, and spice on the nose. The palate shows similar notes at first, but there’s some fruit poking through on the back end. A bit past ideal drinking time for me, but should hold here for a few more years at least.

Medium garnet. Fully mature but still interesting, offering aromas of desicated red fruits, dried herbs, molasses, soy sauce and exotic spice. On the palate this is medium bodied with medium+ acidity, mostly resolved but still slightly grippy tannins and a nice combination of dried red fruit, baked clay and grilled rosemary flavors. Tasty enough.

Popped, poured, consumed over next two hours. Although this is 16 years old and has been stored at cellar temperature since purchase, it still seemed very developed and tertiary for its age. I'm curious as to the cause, but I can't argue with the results. Wonderful aromatics came pouring out after the pop of the cork and it delivered the type of complexity, resolution and flavor nuances I'd expect of a bottle with even more age. I have two more and I'll be curious to see if this is typical or an example of bottle variation.

Good but wished it had a little more character. Tannins resolved and fine.
