Wow. After entering my note below, I checked Wine Advocate, and Jay Miller gave this wine a score of 90+. To each their own, but I simply do not see this wine deserving anywhere near that score.

I am a huge fan of Mencia wines, but not this one. The nose is funky, with a bit of barnyard, something I have not seen before in a Mencia. The palate is dominated by earthiness, but is also a bit bitter and very tannic, with very little fruit. The finish is short and unremarkable. I am curious to see if this improves overnight, but I do not expect that it will.

Eh! not bad not great, nothing special on its own, but with a piece of Manchego, it was really good. On its own, bland, tannic mild fruit, short finish. Glad it was a gift and I didn't fork any $$$ for it.

I'm not sure I get this wine. A dominating note of green wood smoke is followed by fresh raspberry and cherry fruit. Has a lively acidity and significant minerality. Finishes with chalky tannins. I think it's likely this will improve some with age. But I am a little put off by the stemminess of the nose. Update: liked this better on day 2 (after storage in fridge in 1/2 bottle) - more integrated, "green" note has faded. Some cellar time is warranted.
