The bouquet started off soft, complex and balanced. Let this breathe for half an hour and it will draw you into harmonious layers of dark chocolate, seasoned cedar, clove and wet undergrowth, with undertones of ripe plums and blueberries on the nose and palate. Almost full-bodied in the polished structure but this has some elegance and acidity running through its core. Transition is so smooth and tannins are very fine. Finish lingered with toasted spices and gravel. Compared to the other Grand Cru vineyards like Hickinbotham, Piggot Range vineyard has always been more refined and earthy. Still going strong at its peak for the next 3-5 years.

The color is opaque deep purple core with a slight brick-colored rim. The nose is black fruit, licorice, raisin, and a slight hint of eucalyptus. The mouth is dark fruit, white pepper, light vanilla, and licorice. The wine is medium to full body, with integrated silky tannins and a long finish.
You can fee the wines age as the sense of primary fruit is resolved and the left with more of the tertiary notes but very enjoyable.

Strange that after a long period of time, this wine is being sampled by others. At any rate, I agree with the others that I sense dark fruits and maybe a some licorice. This is mesmerizing for a 20 year old wine while showing not a single sign of being a 20 year old wine. Special.
