I had a little squirt from the coravin before deciding to open this. The little squirt was gorgeous - perfumed, strawberries and cherries with a light grip. Bottle opened, glasses filled - and it came over rather differently. Dense, plush, brooding - dark cherry fruit, incredibly rich. This could be spectacular, but not fully expressive today.

This is dense, brooding, but with so much substance. None of the pong that has marred some of the Douhairets. Soft textured. A real animal. Remind me very much of Lafarge Chenes. The mark is a cautious one - this could become very special indeed.

Approached with trepidation after the last bottle. The fruit is still a bit overripe and hints at oxidation, but not as obtrusively so as last time. There's masses there. Lord knows how this will end up. Soft textured and jammy right now.

Strikingly soft-textured for a 2005, but quite closed to start with - clearly deep, fungal, with hints of cherries, and the texture makes it accessible - but really it's one for the future

Once you get past the off-putting oxidative pong on the nose, this is an extraordinarily rich, deep volnay, fruity and fungal - special
