  • Lovely riesling, not as sweet as some auslese, but wonderfully smooth--even silky--with good fruit and balance. Excellent with pork. No sign of age; should hold and may even develop.

  • Drank off a wine list, notes from memory. This was superb. Deft and light, with an abundant floral fruity profile thrown up across a skein of acid and residual sugar. Lip smacking delicous and pure pleasure. Does not taste noticeably sweeter than a Kabinett or Spatlese. Lovely.

  • I took the opposite approach from my last bottle and popped and poured cold. Showed a little more stonefruit characteristic of the vineyard and more slate character this time. Still shows a little too much sweetness for the level of extract and energy. Slightly better showing, though.

  • From 750. Decanted and served at cellar temperature. Poured after two hours and showed to be very simple and primary. The peach aromas detected when the wine was decanted were pretty much gone and it seemed more like a spatlese from a lesser vintage and vineyard. Not bad, just not expressive or compelling. At the four hour mark and served at a cooler temperature, the wine did pick up some spiciness and texture and was improved. I have noticed some 2001s to be in a surprisingly awkward place in the last year or two. I'm on the fence if that's what's going on here or if this wine just doesn't have the stuffing.
