Sommelier Journal

  • By Brett Zimmerman, MS
July 2008, (See more on Sommelier Journal...)

(Domaine Albert Seltz Riesling Zotzenberg) Albert Seltz, a 14th-generation producer and winemaker, put himself on the map by helping the Zotzenberg vineyard become the first to achieve Alsatian grand cru status for a Sylvaner. Seltz’s winery is actually located in the heart of Mittelbergheim, in the Bas-Rhin department of Alsace, and his Riesling is a welcome alternative to the wines produced farther south. With laser-like focus, fresh acidity, and pure Riesling flavor, this is the perfect treat for those who enjoy a dry, intense style. It is also an ideal by-the-glass summer wine that will not likely be found on your neighbor’s wine list. Hot Picks
