Absolutely gorgeous perfectly mature nose displaying sweet red fruit, raspberry jelly, strawberry candy, a hint of sous bois, red tea, grilled fat, cep, sweet spices and earth. Exceptional balance, very finely layered sweet red fruit, silky and polished, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, very fine tannins and a long sweet red fruit driven finish with a hint of sesame and sweet spices at the end. I would love to serve it blind next to the mature top producer Bonne Mares.

Bought 5 of those for £75 each in Belgium recently. Drank the first one last night and it is one of the best red burgs i've had in the last 12 months.
I didn't take note but the fragrance, fruit and freshness were remarkable. Nose sexy as hell. Palate that's all high notes, red fruits and some sweetness.
I've had plenty of Dominique Laurent wines of the years (93s, 95s, 97s, 98s, 2000s,...) and this is the first time I felt the wine was actually ready.
Thom Blach may well have been right (again) when he made the point that Dominique's wines just need a lot of time...

"A pleasant surprise. Sweet raspberry jam, dry red fruit, nutmeg, cinnamon, light caramel, earl grey and finishing with slight mushroom and damp leaves note. Nice medium weight palate with intense sweet fruit and bright acidity. The fruit expression is not extremely complex, meaning not so many layers but all coming in one shot. Intense red fruit driven, sweet wine with nice palate impression. This wine is drinking incredibly well. 94 pts"

The 95 Series Rares were once highly sought after. Since then Dominique Laurent “200% new oak” wines were trashed by many and can be often found in the end bins despite his wines no longer being terribly oaky.
IMO, this producer is one of the most under-rated and under-appreciated perhaps along with the Vincent Girardin high end reds. The wines of Dominique Laurent have excellent concentration, sweet fruit and certainly are not shy. His 95 and 96 are drinking beautifully with very sweet fruit, big scale wines but not out of balance.

Consistent note, perhaps slightly less intensity.
