This was still a big wine showing its Red Mountain heritage. There was a touch of alcohol present on the nose, and a big palate and long finish of espresso, earth, and truffle. The dark berry was behind the other flavors. The tannins seemed well integrated at this point. I could have waited on this one.

A wine for our 10-year wedding anniversary. Pop-n-pour for the 1st glass...black fruit and dark plum coming through with cinnamon, menthol and a touch of alcohol (not terrible but there). Palate is pure dark fruit that spreads across the palate with along with the still substantial tannins (a bruiser in a good way) and good acidity. I am going to let this open for a couple of hours and try with some food...stay tuned.

Exploring the Ciel du Cheval Vineyard (Wapato, WA): (blind) The nose on this wine was the most powerful and ripe of the four, with a touch of heat coming through. Huge, extrancted and full of plum and black fruit, mineral, pencil shavings. Good inner-mouth energy and expansion, and the tannins are still quite pronounced. A bruiser that still has life left.

Still fresh and young. Definitely at peak, but not slowing down yet. Big WA fruit with great balance and texture.
