Medium-deep lime green color. Very restrained and inexpressive nose with vague aromas of grassy greenness, almost vegetal herbaceous character, a little bit of some root vegetable and a hint of developed smokey character. The wine is full-bodied, somewhat developed and concentrated by the age with nuanced flavors of ripe red apples, some mature honeyed character, a little bit of stony minerality, a little bit of herbal bitterness and a hint of roasted chestnuts. The moderately high acidity lends nice sense of harmony to the wine. The finish is quite long, rather light in flavor and pretty refreshing with juicy flavors of ripe apples, some herbal green tones, a little bit of honeyed richness and a hint of stony minerality.
A fun conundrum of a wine: at times it feels somewhat nondescript and very average, then at times it feels nicely rich, developed and complex with good, fresh acidity. I've had some more complex and interesting whites, but despite its shortcomings, this is a pretty nice Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Also a good example how this relatively overlooked variety can age nicely over time.

Citrusy nose with some cut grass, green apples and hints of yellow fruit. Dry, medium bodied and quite crispy. Yellow raspberries and herbaceousness. Some grapefruity bitterness, mineral hints and slightly nutty notes in the medium long finish. Perfectly enjoyable fresh white.

Another example of just how good modest Italian whites can be. Not unlike ripe fiano with full bodied lemon and sharp tropical fruits. Wonderful feel and structure, although perhaps better suited to short term cellaring.
