Initially promissing nose of classic VR. Taste of dried herbs, red fruit, spices and oak. Moderate dept and lenght. Tight structure, fruit faded or kept behind and tart nose prevent this for a better score.

My last bottle and I think I drank it a few years too soon. There's lots of penetrating dark red fruit, leathery, earthy notes, spice and firm tannins on the longish finish. Even after 3-4 hours of double decanting, this was still quite reticent and tight. Lots of potential, just too young.

This needed every minute of 5 hours of double decanting to open beyond the initial, tight, rustic structure that dominated early on. Once past that, the very masculine palate exhibited rich, dark fruit, earth, green brambly underbrush, spice and leathery tannins on the long finish. This is still quite young with a lot of potential.

Tonight this has a fairly rustic style with dark, brooding red fruit and green brambly underbrush. There's ok depth and concentration here but the firm tannins overshadow it. Probably needs abit more time.

Much better than my first bottle a few years ago. This has shut down somewhat, with the tannins playing a large role. But the good news is it has lost it's weird almost lactic sheen (from too much new oak?) I recall from this wine and others I've had from this producer that I've found so off putting. My guess is it will be much better still at age 10-15; a pleasant surprise all in all.
