  • My final bottle of this wine, and perhaps its best showing. I re-read my last two notes about it from over the past 18 months, and find a high degree of similarity among them. The wine isn't deep, rich, or complex, but it's very satsifying, and a very nice match with food. Pale garnet, with a soft but impressive nose of cherry and earth, it has a recognizable palate defined by smooth tanins, a soft mouthfeel, clean, angular fruit with black berry notes prominent, and a discernable pinot character. Not a wine that will make anyone's top 10 list, and no doubt far overpriced at full retail, I am very glad to have had 3 chances to try this thanks to a winebid blowout.

  • Opened with relatively low expectations, but it showed very well. Rich cherry, strawberry fruit, not much of a Burgundy funk happening -- which I missed, actually -- but soft tanins, well integrated, nicely structured. It will never go head to head with the major Grand Crus, even from this vintage. But it was certainly a well made and pleasant wine.

  • This doesn't stand out as an exceptional example of Grand Cru Chambertin. A not great producer from a not great vintage. A bit thinner than it should be. A bit "weedy." Not that well structured. Less mid-palate than it should have. But I'll be damned if it isn't a nice wine! It has a lovely nose of cherries and earthy mushroom. The mouthfeel is pleasing. Nice finish. What appeals about this wine is that it's not over the top. Think of the difference between two chairs, one Louis XIV and the other Frank Lloyd Wright. The latter has nothing it doesn't need, but everything it does need. That's the style of this wine. It falls short of the ideal, but it has a kind of lean integrity that leaves me satisfied.
