  • Still some tannins. This is a big Syrah. Fruit forward and spicy.

  • Popped and poured. First sniff reveals beautiful violets and dark fruits, with a bit of grape kool-aid. First sip is meaty. This is a big Syrah. Lots of fruit, some nice spice/pepper, and a floral component as well, with a touch of bitterness on the finish. Going to let this breathe in the decanter for a couple hours and try it again.

After 3 hours in the decanter, the nose has not changed a bit. Still big with violets, blueberries and grape kool-aid. I could just sniff this all night. On the palate, things have changed a bit. Much more pepper and spices are coming through, with some spectacular blueberry fruit. Finish has lost most of its bite, although at the end, there is a hint of bitterness again. This is just super rich, smooth and lush...absolutely mouthcoating. An excellent Yakima Valley Syrah! Outstanding - 92 points.

[Edit]: Day 2 was a much different story...the bitter finish is back, and it brought friends! While ultra-soft, with a beautiful nose and lovely fruit, the finish is harsh and biting. The wine was properly stored overnight, so this leads me to believe the CT drinking window (2003-2008) is spot-on. Drink up!

  • Anita: Great blackberry, then strawberry (w/fresh straw. for dessert!), very delicious; sweet spice follows in the nose and mouth, with hint dark plum; med.+ bod, med. t’s. Good stuff. W/BBQ ribs and chicken.

  • S&L: Nose is a little bland; didn’t match the Aussie’s.

  • My house tasting: Scarlet purple; juicy nose of strawberry & raspberry; hi-notes of cherry and some berry in the mouth; balanced t’s & a’s; a bit thinner body; pretty long but tart finish.*** Good, but lacking character.
