  • Amazing wine - from a purely academic perspective. First time in nearly ten years I took out one of these bottles; the last time was, when I brought one to a blind tasting, where it embarassingly made last place, beaten by the cheapest of plonk that a friend put in the race as a joke. Very dark garnet red with brick rim. A medium intensive nose that is not unpleasant; raspberry jelly, some sous-bois, black tea and only discreetly a burnt rubber note. In the mouth it starts ok, but then a full load of harsh, drying tannins hit the tongue completely eliminating whatever little fruit one seemed to grasp at start. It is curious how disastruous this vintage is; especially given the great and consistent performance of this wine and producer in all other years I know.
