  • Light gold. Citrus fruit aromatics with real lift. Mineral and viscous at the same time. The word intense keeps popping in my head, also incredibly pure. Just unbelievable complexity and evolution. (211/291)

  • "SG50" Dinner - A dinner to mark and celebrate 50-years of nation building! (Jade Palace): Wow! This was a treat - a rare wine indeed given its extremely low production per year. This started with a slight "burnt-sugar" smoky nose. That lifted after some time in the glass, and revealed notes of flowers and a little spice. On the palate, this was so good - palate staining dense but lithe and lively at the same time. The fruits (flavours) came wave-after-wave, never seemingly ending... Kudos to Mdm Lalou for crafting this powerful, yet extremely beautiful wine!

  • An SG 50 celebratory dinner at Jade Palace. 291 bottles made. A real rarity. Medium yellow, almost identical in color to the Leflaive Chevy 95. Again, that funky, cheesy and sherry like aromas when the bottle was first opened. Decanted. Very rich and intense on the nose, with white flowers, manuka honey, Roasted corn, heavily buttered toast, and sweet toffee. This was a massive wine on the nose alone. Perfect balance on the palate. Big and powerful without being over the top, maintaining a beautiful elegance. Peach, passionfruit, butter, oil, toffee, hazelnuts and fresh coconut. This obviously needs a couple of decades. This is an awesome wine no doubt, but I somehow refer this to a pair of Leflaive and Ramonet Batard 1992 consumed earlier this year, and it lacked the nuances and hedonistic delight. I've no doubt this will come by with 30 years of age, but for now, more potential than immediate pleasure. Lovely generosity by Johan (again).

  • Not sure if I’ve had a better white wine than this all year. There’s a more matchstick on the nose than a box of Redheads. There fruits are dense, rich and chewy, staining the palate with sappy orchard fruit flavours. It has plenty of spicy oak but certainly commensurate with the level of fruit. It is a white wine of great detail and authority with a finish that just drives on and on.

  • There was a blanket of smoky sulphur that lifted to reveal pure orchard fruits, minerals and flora. It was cool and rocky with real power, precision and poise. Quail legs, Salmon tartare with seaweed and quail chequered thighs was a nice little surf and turf dish to accompany.
