  • Medium ruby color. Black cherries, black raspberries and black currants in the nose with notes of chocolate, leather, licorice and earthiness. Blackberries and plums in the flavor with some mocha and coffee. An elegant wine, well balanced, medium to full bodied and a medium to long finish. Opened side by side with the 2009 Ridge Monte Bello and though still a very good wine, not up to the Monte Bello. Best opened in the next two to three years.

  • Beautiful wine! Not a traditional California cab but a very lighter wine with some depth. Rounded and elegant this is a wonderful wine that would go with white meat and medium flavored foods. However, it’s solid on it’s own.

  • Decanted and enjoyed over a long evening, alongside a 2005 Montrose, and other fine offerings.

This smells and drinks similarly to Right Bank Bordeaux...if a touch fruitier. Still, if placed in a blind flight of 15 to 25 year old Right Bank offerings, I might be hard pressed to pick it out, particularly given that many Right Bank producers began shifting to more fruity and oaky styles round about the early 2000s.

Plum, rhubarb, and pomegranate notes, backed by stalwart, velvet-textured structure. The 7.2 percent Cabernet Franc really stands out, showing as if Cabernet family varieties comprise about 30 percent of the blend, enhancing the wine's overall firmness and tension. Terroir elements also show prominently. High energy, excellent range and depth, wondrously appealing. Exceptional balance of fruit, real substance, oak, and alcohol. The last pour was best.

There is no reason not to hold bottles for another five to seven years, but this is not likely to improve measurably. At 20 years old, I would drink sooner than later.
