  • Retail $40 (?). I have visited Fess Parker a couple of times and it is certainly a bit on the cheesy side–big tasting room with lots of merchandise (most containing a coonskin cap insignia since Fess Parker played Daniel Boone). I have enjoyed the wines, despite all of this over the years.

This wine, despite being noticeably on the dark side was wonderful–buttery and rich without being a Cali oak monster. The tropical fruit was nicely balanced by the acidity. Excellent. 90-92 Points.

  • Nicely balanced wine. Mild oak, not typical of a California chardonnay.

  • Just average. Overly acidic and a bitter finish that didn't improve over time.

  • Popped and poured, then tasted over two days. Gold with lots of green in the glass. Very expressive nose of honeydew melon, white flowers, lemon, and pear. On the palate: Pear, lemon, and melon notes follow through nicely, along with some key lime. Some chalkiness evolved as the wine opened up a little. A nice hit of vanilla, along with some other restrained oak notes. There is also a bitter, lemon pith aspect in the back palate. Mouthfeel is substantial. This is a sufficiently complex wine with plenty going on to keep the drinking interesting, but there are two major flaws here that keep this wine from being very good. Firstly, and probably most importantly, is that the alcohol level is much too hot, overwhelming the concentration of fruit in this wine. Secondly, especially considering the alcohol level, is that the acidity is much too low. Unfortunately, after the really nice, expressive nose, the palate cloys quickly due to these two factors. A nice wine somewhat ruined, in my opinion. Still, some people will like this as a cocktail wine with no food in the way, as long as it is chilled sufficiently. Also, at this price, this is no deal of a wine.
