1 hour decant (approx.) ... This one has a bit of a refined edge to it, with a bit of age and air. Don't get me wrong, it's still "balls-to-the-wall wine," as the winemaker self-describes his style (accurately). It was lush, plush, smooth and rich. Still a decent backbone left and no heat to speak of. Berry nose and at the palate forefront, but backed up with earth and graphite and a hint of spice. Excellent, as always.

Tasted over two days. A real fan of Story's other grenache, On the Road, I have never warmed to this single vineyard, maybe due to its cooler climate. I know it is highly respected, but the wines seem constrained by Story's flambouyant standards, almost stodgy. Better for food pairing and large gatherings, I suppose, but, to me, it suppresses the exuberance of this special winemaker.

Popped this open last night. It was getting late in the evening so it didn't get a proper decant. Upon pouring a glass, you would think it was syrah from the color. Nothing like most Grenache based wines. The color was only surpassed by the nose and then the taste. Russell really makes big in your face wines. The thing is they're all great. I don't think I've ever had a bad one and I have had a few over the years. My daughters boyfriend thought it had too much Alc, while I didn't even notice it. He's not in to the big alc wines so you can take it for what its worth. My son enjoyed a glass as well and seemed to like it too. In the end I think it hit the sweet spot more with me, but that's OK. I still have over half the bottle left for tonight and I only expect this to have continued to evolve. Looking forward to it. Enjoy!!!
