  • Salty Pidgin with Simon and friends (Brooklyn, Wellington, NZ): Served non-blind. Dark colour, compared with the Giacosa. A nose of fresh black currants and dark cherries, black spices, balsamico and espresso, with a hint of mint or menthol. No major oak artefact, just a whiff of toasty spiciness. In the mouth, drinking even younger than the Giacosa. Quite primary really, although the abundant ripe, rich fruit seems to have largely consumed the oak tannin. Sleek and silky, with ultra-fine grained tannins. Good acidity retained. Black and even a suggestion of blue fruit, mocha and iron, with some soy, umami flavours. A very modernist Cannubi. Very good, however the Giacosa was too tough a comparison.

  • Åldrat och först lite terpentintråkigt i doften men sedan kommer torkad frukt och blommor, te, tobak och annat ombonat. Fin polerad smak. Subtilt.

    Korrekt? Ja.
    Doftintensitet: Medel +.
    Doft: Frukt - röda bär - torkade körsbär. Blommor - vissna rosor. Torkad frukt - russin. Fat - mörk choklad, svart te, vaniljig piptobak.
    Utveckling: Moget så det räcker.

    SMAK
    Torrt/sött: Snustorrt.
    Syra: Medel –.
    Tanniner: Fina men uttorkande.
    Alkohol: Väl integrerad (14 procent.)
    Fyllighet: Medel –.
    Smakstyrka: Medel.
    Smak: Frukt - röda bär - kärniga hallon. Fat - choklad, vanilj, tobak, läder.
    Textur/balans/bubblighet: Nej.
    Eftersmak: Lång, vaniljtonad. Rasande trevlig.

    SLUTSATSER
    Kvalitet: Mycket hög.
    Drickabilitet: Inget att spara på.
    Geografi: Piemonte.
    Pris: 1 000 kronor.

  • Twelfth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): In Piedmont flight #2...mid-aged Barolo. Open and decanted many hours before serving. Dark and ripe fruit but clearly getting tired and lacking energy. Decanted too long? Disappointed vs my prior experience with this wine. 87 points tonight.

  • Pre Wine Festival Lunch. Very light red with brown edges. Tar and mint are in the very front of the nose, then some cherries and smoked meat. Very elegant and obviously Barolo. Dry earthy beef stock and black cherry flavors and a dry finish but not to acidic. Very soft tannins.

    I think that this wine is obviously a great success for this winery. Obviously all of the great fruit has lasted long enough to come into balance with the oak.
