Dinner with Wine Doc (BellyQ, Chicago): Thanks to smartlysauced for sharing this bottle. Cherry and baked rhubarb notes with clay and earth overtones. Medium-bodied and nicely balanced, with flavors of red plum, cherry and just a hint of rhubarb here as well, with spice and earth tones in the background.
Cellar time has greatly improved this wine. Still a medium ruby, but the primary griotte cherry aromas now are overlaid with spice cake, leather, vanilla. Sweet but complex in the mouth, and the finish has become much longer too. Clearly was in a sullen phase last time I tried it. Could it improve even more with a few years additional time?
