In its youth this was quite a fruity number and well-balanced, now we have leathery and smoky notes but there is still some dark fruit on the nose, while on the palate it's quite cedary with cassis and dried blackberry - not my favorite wine I've tried this summer, but it was certainly good and managed to transport me back to Italy, if just for a little while.
Charred wood and ripe red cherry and plum. If this didn’t have those nice biting tannins, it could almost be a Californian merlot. Almost a salty note on the finish, with a nice hint of toasty oak. Drink now-2011. Food pairing: apéritif, pasta with spicy sausage.
