The last of our bottles purchased back in 2010 when these were rebottled from old stocks. Last time we had this was in 2014 ( Papies 90) but this time round it did not show an nice. Maybe it’s our palate being more demanding as the wine did exactly what it promised but felt a bit less impressive. We have not treated this bottle very well either so we could be at fault here too. 88 on this occasion and one can this of this as a light less spirited port.

I was looking forward to this after having had the pleasure of drinking a 1874 Sisqueille recently (which had proved spellbinding - I rated it 98 points and this experience had put this style of wine on my radar screen). The 1950 Banyuls, while coming with a hefty 95NM score, could not provide the sort of pleasure unfortunately that the Sisqueille invoked. It was a good drinking "medium of the range port alternative" I would call it. There was just not the complexity on the nose or palate that I had been hoping for.

Easter with McG Family; 4/3/2015-4/5/2015 (Gerroa): Dark, dense, with a bricking/coffee rim. Rich dark plums and prunes with scents of toffee, raisins and caramel. Raisins, fruit cake, fig, blueberry, raspberry, and maraschino cherry. A delicious bright blend of fruit driven flavours. Age comes through with earthy rich raisins and honey, just a touch of caramel. Weight is soft to medium, the balance is excellent and the finish long and poised, with lingering secondary flavours. Great drinking.

Another consistent performance to our last 2 (Papies rated 90-91) The colour for sure shows the age.For us this will always be a port without the spiritness and the heaviness of fruit. Quite approachable now of course, well round, yet vibrant and holds its own very well. AT 50£ we consider this very good value. 90-91

Felt consistent with our previous note, but this came at the end of a long line up so the TN is not the best we can show for. A port but less spirity as we said before. This wine continues to be very much alive. A touch smoky this time round maybe a bit more tar feel. Very enjoyable one again. 90
