(Last supper dinner at Balzac) The most fascinating wine of the night. Dark, inky in the glass. Big heady notes of dried plums, dried figs and prunes. Thick strong chewy mouthfeel, but not harsh tannins, some sweetness and heaps of stewed and reduced darkfruit. Bits of licorice and mocha. Savoury brambly base matched well with the pork belly, giving the pork belly and black pudding a well rounded base on which to stand. Not so good alone, but well made for food - though pairing choice may be rather specific. Mid finish. Educational!

Club de Dégustation GLP: 45% Xynomavro plus Merlot and Syrah. Gets some spice from syrah. Taste like a cheap dolcetto. Hope Greek wineries can do better...

Darker, almost black; nice nose, bit spicy; mod-full palate, strong tannins but enjoyable, good blackberry fruit, velvety texture.
