  • Medium-light garnet with an orange/bricking tint in color & distinct clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of faint cherries & berries with overtones of earthy/dusty notes, coffee, herbs & a hint of oxidized undertones in the background. Unfortunately, the nose soon dissipated over time (1 hour+). Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, well developed, ripe fruit flavors of cherries & berries with herbs, minerals & a hint of sherry-like notes. Lingering tart finish. As expected, it is well past its prime. The back label indicates it is a blend of Pinot Noir, Gamay & Petite Syrah. An interesting experience to sample this old wine which at 63 years of age has held up wonderfully. Any numerical score would not do justice to the tasting experience. Ullage was mid-shoulder; cork was fully stained & crumbled upon opening.

  • Unbelievably good for what it is. Shows Andre made great wine not just cabs. Nice cork, no mustyness whatsoever in first sniff. Had to decant for sediment. Slight orange/brick colour visible while pouring but dark garnet in glass. Nice fruit and balancemy wife guessed Syrah and it does contain "Petite Sirah". Really quite lovely especially considering I spent less than $2 on it (in 1971)!
